A project that explores the intersectionality of women in cannabis. We see the world through a unique lens, one shaped by our identity which affects our opportunities, experiences, and growth. The focus for Dopeafide for Women's History Month was to explore different lenses by photographing 12 women in Portland, Oregon and collected writings based on their personal experiences. We prompted our participants to tell their stories and bring an item that empowered them. We are honored to share their stories with you today.
Today we highlight Angela Cousineau, of NorthWest Cannabis Club, social advocate and cannabusiness woman.
Consider what cannabis meant to you ten years ago and how it affected your life then vs. today. What does your day to day life look like now? Is cannabis a consistent part of it? Is it not? How does your gender, race, class, and age affect your cannabis use and the opportunities you are presented in the industry? What do you hope for you future.
Being a woman in the Cannabis industry is Exhilarating!
I work on creating a future for Cannabis patients, consumers, allies, growers, crafters and companies to thrive when gaining access to medicate, socialize, normalize & de-stigmatize. When I have community members present idea’s and events to me, I meet some of the most determined people and especially women I’ve ever met. That gives myself as a young woman a lot of encouragement to keep striving to make this maturing industry more multidimensional.
Women bring so much reliability, strength, courage and commitment to the workplace. Being the only female at a smaller ran business has brought out an expanded network, motivation within our team to excel and effective communication for collaborative work. I believe and know our company will expand and as that happens we will continue to place women in leadership roles where they belong. I’m excited to see women continue to be leaders while creating a stable future for all members of this community! There are so many ways to become connected and feel safe as a women in this community, I’m joyful to be apart of it and provide that for others.
